April Fools day! I have fooled myself in to thinking that I can play this tune! Seriously, I love this hornpipe because it is so different in sound -- it does not even sound "Celtic" to me but the tune is claimed by advocates of several countries that are clearly sources of such tunes -- eg, Ireland, Scotland, and Shetland for starters. I really enjoy playing it! It is a really fun tune to play but a bit tricky and some of the note changes are not at all tyical for a G tune in my humble opinion. The chord changes are: A-part G D7 G D7 G D7 G and for the B-part B7 Em A7 D7 CC# G E7. As well as being interesting to play there are conflicting claims as to who wrote the Golden Eagle Hornpipe. One person said it "sounds" like a late nineteenth century tune, so it should be possible to track down an original composer and nail down its origins." Among the composers who have been given credit are James Hill (Irealand) and I've seen credit give to Benny Thomasson but again that is probably not possible. Anyway..... Played on a 2001 Gibson F-5 (Sam Bush model) with D'Addario J75 phospho-bronze strings and Wegen TF-120 pick at about 150 bpm.
