Rory Gallagher's eponymous solo debut album released in 1971. * Rory Gallagher - Vocals/Guitars/Alto Sax/Mandolin/Harmonica * Gerry McAvoy - Bass Guitar * Wilgar Campbell - Drums and Percussion * Vincent Crane - Piano. JUST THE SMILE Just the smile that is spreading all over her face, Could warm up the room and set fire to the place. Yes it could, you know it could. Now the fog is clinging all over the town, Put one foot in front then you just might fall down. On the ground, she's in town. But like the rain that is falling all over the land, She cools down my mind when she touches my hand. Feels so good, yeah so good. Just the smile that is spreading all over her face, Could warm up the room and set fire to the place. Yes she could, you know it could. How to Repair Damage to Your Vinyl Floor

All I did was pull out the refrigerator to clean behind it. It was supposed to be a quick, easy job, but the end result was an urgent, Priority One repair task. When the front of the fridge tipped, the extra weight made the machines rollers dig into the kitchens vinyl flooring and made a noticeable gouge in the middle of the floor.

If you have vinyl flooring anywhere in your house, chances are it will need minor repairs at some point. Pull the washer, dryer or refrigerator out from the wall, drop a heavy pan, or goof on any number of innocent actions and the result can be noticeable damage. Murphy's Law as it relates to vinyl flooring is quite emphatic: Accidental dings, cuts, nicks and scratches always occur in the most noticeable or ostentatious location possible. They will never happen in the mud or utility room where nobody cares.

Repairing vinyl floors can be easy, depending on where the damage might be and how big it is. For some of the smaller spots, repair is simple: Just take a putty knife, clean the damaged area as well as possible, and force some of the flooring adhesive underneath the edge or flap of the nick. Use some sort of heavy weight, such as a brick or heavy book, to hold down the repair until its dried.

Sometimes a seam will curl or come loose. In that case, clean and scrape the edge, and apply flooring adhesive. Then, stack bricks, heavy books or other flat, weighty items on the repair until the adhesive is set.

If you have the available storage space, always keep remnants of flooring, carpet and paint for small repairs. If you dont have leftovers, cut a small piece of vinyl from a less-noticeable place, such as under the refrigerator, inside a closet or behind the door in the utility room.

Larger repairs may take more time and energy. Start by examining the floors wear patterns. If the damage is right in the middle of a heavy traffic area, matching the flooring may be hard. A small patch of brand- new material will stick out like a sore thumb and may look worse than the damage.

In those instances, a larger patch is probably the best choice. Match your patterns carefully. If there is a pattern, such as grid squares on the floor, it will be easier to hide the repair. Place the patch piece over the damaged area, and use a straight-edge and utility knife to cut through both pieces simultaneously.

Lift up the damaged piece, and scrape away as much of the old adhesive residue as possible. Then, apply flooring adhesive to the patch and carefully position it where the old piece was. Use bricks to hold down the edges and corners until the adhesive sets.

If you cut the patch accurately, cleaned the underlying surfaces carefully and made sure the patch dried flat, your repair job should be almost invisible and last until the whole floor is replaced.

Explore Different Types of Musical Instruments

Music is the most beautiful form of art that is communicated through variety of musical instruments producing sounds, rhythms, and tones. The oldest musical instrument dates back to the rich heritage and after that many varieties have been introduced with each delivering its unique sound and quality

These instruments are divided into many categories depending on different types of classification. A significant classification is based on the mechanism used for producing sound under which instruments are divided into five basic categories.

Explore here some of the most significant types of musical instruments:

String Instruments

String instruments produce sound through the mechanism of a vibrating string. Strings are composed of metal, synthetic, or natural materials and are of varied thickness, weight, length, and tension. The composition, dimension, and the weight of the strings play an integral role in the quality of sound produced. When the strings are thick and heavy, vibration is slow resulting in lower pitch whereas faster vibration results in higher pitch. Some of the most common types of string instruments are guitar, piano, violin, cello, viola, double bass, mandolin, harp, and santoor.

Wind Instruments

Wind instruments are those instruments in which sound is made by the vibration of air in a pipe or a tube. The key factor influencing the pitch of sound produced is the frequency of air vibration that greatly depends on the size of the air chamber or the tube. Larger the size of the air chamber deeper will be the sound produced. Some instruments like flute have holes in the tube to change the pitch of the sound. Covering and uncovering these holes change the path of the air which directly affects the air chamber size that changes the frequency and eventually the pitch. Some of the most popular wind instruments are flute, clarinet, bassoon, English horn, saxophone, bagpipe, and harmonica.

Brass Instruments

Brass instruments produce a unique nature and texture of sound. They work on the principle of air vibration and sound frequency. The pitch produced is directly related to the size of the air chamber that depends on the size and the length of the tube, pipe, or the instrument. The larger the size of the chamber, lower is the pitch of the sound. These instruments have holes or valves that are used to control the path of air. Pressing a valve changes the path of air that affects the sound wave by changing the length of the pipe. This way by shortening and lengthening the size of the pipe the sound pitch is altered as desired. Some common brass instruments are trumpet, bugle, conch, and french horn.

Percussion Instruments

Percussion instruments produce sound waves by being hit or shaken by any kind of striking object. The vibration and the wave produced depend on the type of surface and the type of material used to strike the instrument surface. Apart from this the thickness and size of the material also influences the sound quality and the vibration. Furthermore different sounds are produced by striking different areas of the instrument's surface. Some significant instruments under this category are drum, xylophone, cymbal, marimba, triangle, bells, tambourine, and wood block.

Electronic Instruments

Electronic instruments are the new generation of musical instruments that are introduced in the recent years. These produce sound using advanced technology and electronic medium. Most of these instruments like the piano keyboards, octopads, samplers, and synthesizers are designed to produce exciting music in a user-friendly way.

Inversion of Chords

What are inversions in music?

There are inverted chords, inverted melodies and inverted intervals. A chords inversion describes the relationship of its bass to the other tones in the chord. For instance, a C major triad contains the tones C, E and G; its inversion is determined by which of these tones is used as the bottom note in the chord.

The term inversion is often used to categorically refer to the different possibilities, although it may also be restricted to only those chords where the bass note is not also the root of the chord.

The Root Position and Two Inversions of the C triad:

We have been studying three toned chords. You know a C chord, F chord and a G chord. Now the number of tones = the number of ways the chord can be played. Since a triad or a basic chord is three -toned, it can be played three different ways: the root, the first inversion and the second inversion.

When a chord is inverted, the order of the notes is rearranged so that either the 3rd and 5th or just the 5th is below the inverted root.

If the ROOT (the note that is represented by the chord) of a C Major Chord is the lowest tone of the chord, it is said to be in the root or fundamental position.

For an example, if you are playing a C major chord with C as the lowest note, it is being played in Root or Fundamental position.

If another tone of the chord is the lowest tone, the chord is inverted.

The first Inversion would have the third of the chord as the lowest note.

The Second Inversion would have the Fifth of the chord as the lowest note.

The Third Inversion would have the Seventh of the chord as the lowest note.

C Major Chord (Root) = C E G

Since C is the lowest note, it is said to be in its root position.

C Major (1st Inversion) = E G C

Since E (the third of C major) is the lowest note, it is said to be in the First Inversion.

Since G (the fifth of C major) is the lowest note, it is said to be in the

Second inversion.

When a chord is played in its root position, the keynote is always on the bottom. When a chord is played in its first inversion, the keynote is always on the top. When a chord is played in its second inversion, the keynote is always in the middle.

So, what are chord inversions?

We have been dealing with chords in root position. Root position simply means that the root is the lowest note in the chord-the remaining note are stacked on top. But, you can also change the order of the notes, thereby inverting a chord.

How can you invert a chord?

You can invert a chord simply by transposing (moving) the lowest note up an octave, while leaving the others untouched. You can also invert downwards by transposing the highest note down an octave.

Chords can theoretically have as many inversions as they have notes. I say "theoretically" because larger ones tend to be fussy about their inversions: some inversions definitely sound better than others. Triads and seventh chords can, for most practical purposes, be freely inverted, depending on context.

Why invert?

There are many reasons. Progressions sound better with root position chords mixed with inverted chords. So various notes of one chord lead smoothly to notes in the next chord, with others not moving at all. This is called voice-leading.

Another reason for inversion, especially important for string instruments, is to make the chord easier (or in many cases, possible) to reach. Many chords-especially ones with four or more notes-are virtually unplayable in root position on instruments such as guitar and mandolin.

Enjoy playing many inversions in three different positions that will give you more options to your piano playing!

Are You in Shape? How to Figure Out Your Level of Physical Fitness

Unless you work out regularly, you should try to figure out what your level of physical fitness is before jumping into a workout program. This is especially important if you are middle-aged, or if you have health problems that might contraindicate an intense fitness regimen. If in doubt, make sure you clear things with a doctor.

Your doctor will screen you for common health problems that might interfere with your new fitness routine. These include (but are probably not limited to) high blood pressure, heart arrhythmia, and any sort of family history of cardiovascular irregularities.

Once you are medically cleared to engage in an intense workout, you can use these benchmarks to figure out your level of physical fitness:

First, determine how capable you are when it comes to cardio. Without sufficient stamina, you won't be able to improve your fitness levels because your workouts will suffer. You should be able to work out at your chosen intensity level for a minimum of 15 minutes straight.

Second, take some time to think about your body composition. If you know your body fat percentage, that's an excellent way to determine whether you are fit or not. Anything above 20% for women and 15% for men may indicate that you need to skew your workouts towards fat loss, at least initially. Further, if excess fat is impacting your quality of life, it's something you should address through training.

Third, test your flexibility. If any of your joints doesn't easily move through a full range of motion, you are not physically fit. Make sure you have sufficient levels of flexibility before you begin a heavy weight-lifting program.

Finally, determine if you have any muscular weakness that affects your daily routine or your intended workout plans. Strength is relative, but you should be able to perform some simple body-weight exercises like dips, pull-ups, and pushups. If not, you need to work on your strength level (and your body composition, perhaps) before you can really call yourself "fit".

So, always remember that information and knowledge is the first step towards making progress towards your goals. Don't jump into a fitness program blind. Figure out where you are, and you'll be on the track to getting where you want to be.
