This is a compilation of pictures of the Mexico of yesteryear, ca. 1885-1910 The times of the President, General Porfirio Diaz; Don Porfirio Diaz lived in the Castle of Chapultepec, he has a french-european-alike court; he was the one who ordered the construction of the "National Theater" (Today: "Palace of Fine Arts"); the music and the culture were at his highest expression. Look how beautiful was Mexico. The music is "Las Bicicletas" (The Bicycles) by Salvador Morlet, performed by "Los abuelitos" ("The grandpas"). "Los abuelitos" was a group of musicians who wanted to maintain alive the music of yesteryear; they played: Violin, piano, psalterium, accordion, mandolin, guitar and marimba.

Şebnem Ferah was born on 12 April 1972 in Yalova to Turkish immigrant parents from Skopje of the Republic of Macedonia. She first took solfeggio and instrument lessons from her father who was also a teacher. She grew up listening to her father's Rumelian folk songs played with bağlama, mandolin and piano. She got her first guitar when she was in the first year in boarding at Bursa Namık Sözeri High School. She got acoustic lessons. During her second year, she hired a studio with her friends and formed the group Pegasus. The group had their first stage experience during a rock festival in Bursa, in 1987. After a while, Pegasus disbanded. In 1988 with her four friends, Şebnem formed Volvox, which was named after the microorganism named volvox they encountered in a biology lesson.In 1989 she provided the voice of Ariel for The Little Mermaid. She also reprised the role in the redub. After graduating from high school, she attended Middle East Technical University, studying economics, and moved to Ankara with her sister. During this time, she met Özlem Tekin, who has now also become another recognized pop-rock musician in Turkey, and Özlem joined Volvox. Volvox could not do any practice for a year and a half because the members experienced a hardship with coming together, with the other members except Özlem and Şebnem living in Istanbul. In her second year at university, Şebnem changed her mind about being an economist, dropped out, and moved to Istanbul. In Istanbul, she ...

I'm bored so I'll comment about the tunes: -I had a piece of the first jig in my mind, so I searched for it with the ABC searcher on TheSession.org . I found it and learned it. But I forgot about that "a" in bars 5 and 13. -A friend of mine told me she had just learned the Swallowtail, so I decided to re-learn it. But among other mistakes you can hear I start with "BEE GEE" most of the time instead of "GEE BEE". -Once I was listening to "The Late Session" on RTÉ.ie and I liked a set of tunes a fiddler, whose name I can't remember, was playing alone. So I transcribed the first tune. It happened to be the Swallowtail Reel in E Dorian, when that reel is normally played in A Dorian. So this is his setting, sorry for stealing it. PD No, we don't have a cat.

A mandolin orchestra is an ensemble of plucked string instruments similar in structure to the string sections of a symphony orchestra. There are first and second mandolin sections (analogous to first and second violins); a mandola section (analogous to the viola section); mandocelli (analogous to the violincelli), classical guitars, and a bass section originally of mando-basses but nowadays more likely to be acoustic bass guitar or double bass. The classical guitar section is very important and many orchestras are more accurately described as mandolin and guitar orchestras. Many orchestras also include a percussion section. Most mandolin orchestras are community based and are supported by a core of professional musicians and teachers with a passion for plucked string instruments and music. They are found in nearly all major cities in the western world, as well as Japan, Korea, and South America. This one is based in Brighton, UK and is open to all but it helps a lot if you can read music. Violinists will find the transition to mandolin quite easy.
